Early Signs of Pregnancy: Facts, Symptoms, and Complications
Women around the globe are aware of the common signs of pregnancy. This includes nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to smell and a lot more. However, not everyone goes through the same process when expecting a child. Some aren’t so tuned in with their bodies and only suspects pregnancy once they’ve missed their period for a month or two.
This article will help you find out all possible symptoms you may encounter once you’re pregnant. Facts, early signs, and even complications are stated.
What are the obvious signs of pregnancy?
Missing a period for a month or two is not only possible when you’re expecting a child. Sometimes, this is brought by hormonal change, stress, illness or strenuous activity. Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS may experience a delay in their menstrual cycle or completely stop altogether.
However, if you already missed a period for over a month but spotting and cramping occur, know that it is among the pregnancy symptoms.
Most women suspect these symptoms as part of their menstrual cycle. But these are actually the early signs of pregnancy. After the conception, the fertilized egg attaches itself to uterus’ wall, which causes the spotting or slight bleeding. This occurs six to twelve days after the egg is fertilized.
More than spotting, girls can have a milky discharge, which is caused by the thickening of the vagina’s walls after the conception.
Other obvious signs include:
- Swelling of the breast- Tender, fuller and heavier breast with slight pain
- Headaches and backaches- Most pregnant women experience throbbing pain in the head and chronic back pain
- Dizziness and nausea- This can be related to the dilation of blood vessels and low blood sugar
- Mood swings- Caused by a hormonal change in the first trimester
- Bladder changes- Frequent bathroom trips than usual caused by hormonal change
- Fatigue- Roller coaster of emotions, fatigue, and dizziness can be experienced
Ways to confirm pregnancy
Basically, the blood or urine tests are done to detect human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG. False positive or false negative occurs when a woman takes the test too early or commit an error in performing the test.
Here are the testing options
- Pregnancy Test on Urine
You can purchase a pregnancy kit from a local pharmacy. The stick contains fibers with chemicals that react when hCG is present. When a line is produced, you’re expecting a child.
- Blood tests
This is a more reliable option for you since healthcare professionals will assist in the process. With a blood test, you can also check if you’re having a healthy pregnancy or not.
- Internal examination
Doctors can examine your uterus and cervix to see if there’s a change in size, color and if cervix became softer.
Foul odor in the milky discharge, as well as itchiness and irritation in the vagina, must be reported to a doctor. these may be caused by a bacterial infection and other conditions.
Sexually transmitted infections or STI can be transmitted to the baby in the womb. That’s why it’s important to screen for STIs as early as possible. This condition can preterm labor when a woman’s water breaks too early.
Some pregnant women will not have any of these signs, but their bodies may change. If some symptoms aren’t tolerable anymore, you can definitely see a doctor. Once the pregnancy is confirmed, you need to start taking care of your body and get all the required tests. This is to get ready for the whole pregnancy period and the birth.
